Always inside, nobody that I know of ventures outside. The spring are chasing bait in the inside - rule # 1 of the derby is "find the bait and find the spring. They could be anywhere inside - huge area right - but word spreads fast.. Hint: 2 of the last 3 derby winners were caught very close to the Nook

Hi :
Yes the derby is Sat March 1st and Sunday March 2nd until 12 noon. Weigh in must be done before 12 noon as that is the close. It takes a little while after that for the crew to get orginized for the presentation

Hey it should be noted that this is the 20th annual derby. I am told in celebration of this milestone, the organizers may be putting the cash value of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places up a little bit. As ussual the draw prizes will be numerous.

Hey Mossman!! Any sign of fish yet in the sound? My normal source of information is busy building houses this spring so I'm kind of out of the loop. Hopefully the weather sorts itself out by derby time.

Yes, I heard yesterday that the fish are in Vernon Bay. This is common at this time of year. Trouble is that at any any time the bait can move out of the Bay and of course the salmon follow so by derby time it is no longer the hotspot, or it remains that way for a few eeks - who knows - lol. A couple of years ago the Pilchard came into the sound in time for the derby and the fishing was everywhere. The other thing that has happened over the past three years is that there has not been a roe herring fishery in Barclay Sound so there are herring everywhere as well. I refer back to rule # 1 . find bait and you will find salmon
